The cross has always produced offence in both religious and secular people alike. One of the reasons why is because the cross was such a shameful way to die—yet the Christian claim is that the salvation of the world comes through this shameful event.

The cross of Jesus Christ stands at the centre of the Christian faith and at the centre of human history. There is a universal tendency for us to do away with the cross but when we study the Scripture we quickly realize that we cannot do so.

What if the way we talk about people reveals whether we really believe the gospel? Because Jesus’ death and resurrection began the new creation, we are called to speak about others accordingly.

Persecution of Christians in the world is not new—in fact, Jesus said it’s to be expected. Surprisingly, Jesus also says there is great reward and joy for those who persevere.

Violence surrounds us in this world and peace seems so far away when we read the news. Yet, peacemaking is one of the great distinctives of Jesus and he invites us to join him in working for peace in this world.

Just like pollution blocks our view of a beautiful mountain, so sin blocks and distorts our view of God. If we want to see God more clearly then we must deal with impurity in our hearts—which is something only God can do.
