Tithing in the Old Testament:
- Cain & Abel - Genesis 4:2-5
- Abraham - Genesis 14:20
- Jacob - Genesis 28:22
- Mosaic Law - Leviticus 27:30 & Deuteronomy 26:1-2
- Malachi 3:6-12
Tithing/Generosity in the New Testament:
- Jesus - Matthew 23:23
- Paul - 1 Corinthians 16:1-4 & 2 Corinthians 6:9-15
Principles for growing generosity:
- Plan ahead & live with margin
- The local church is normally the first priority
- Don’t wait until you have more to start giving.
- Experience the joy of giving.
Questions to Ponder: Who taught you, or modelled for you, what generosity looks like? Based on the passages of Scripture above and what God is teaching you through prayer, what does generosity look like for you? How can you avoid legalism in your approach to giving?
