Because Jesus called us to be disciples every day of the week, this summer we are providing tangible ways to prayerfully integrate our core RRCC values into your home, neighborhood, and workplace.

This week, our focus is community.

Focus: Building deep, sacrificial, and loving relationships

  • Home and Family Life
    • Put the phone away or in another room to intentionally spend time with your family.
    • Share your highs and lows at the end of each day.
    • Commit to forgiving others quickly.
    • Speak life-giving words. Try to give encouragement to every single person at least once a week.
  • Neighborhood
    • Invite a neighbour for dinner or host a neighbourhood BBQ or other community event like a watch party (indoor or outdoor) for any of Canada's games in the FIFA World Cup.
    • Invite others to join you for leisure activities. Invite neighbours to go for a walk, exercise, or have a playdate with kids.
    • Invite your neighbours to join you with a big box of sidewalk chalk, and draw soccer balls and country flags on the sidewalks/townhouse lanes for the FIFA World Cup.
    • Share a current struggle or prayer request with a trusted neighbour (if appropriate) to model vulnerability and allow them to support you, deepening the relationship.
    • Invite neighbours to help you with a project or offer to help them with one of theirs. Doing something together is a great way to connect, and when people help you, it makes them feel valued.
  • Workplace
    • Support someone who it’s not your job to support.
    • Ask someone for help or advice with something you are doing that has been challenging.
    • Practice Christ-like conflict resolution. Commit to addressing issues directly with the involved individual, forgiving quickly, and refusing to engage in back-channel gossip.
    • Congratulate a colleague who is doing well or has hit a work-related milestone.
    • Mentor someone who is younger or could use some training.

A reminder: you don’t need to do all of these. Prayerfully consider which one or two areas God is inviting you into this season. If an idea feels intimidating, look for a 'low-stakes' way to dip your toe in the water.

As we live out these values—Christ-Centeredness, Welcome, and Community—we extend the church beyond these four walls and into our neighbourhoods, workplaces, and the world.
