Many students across the province rely on breakfast and lunch programs to fill their tummies on school days. However, when it comes to the weekend, they don’t have the food they need. The Starfish Pack was designed to help change that. Starfish provides backpacks containing two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners, and snacks to hungry students each weekend of the school year.
The Abbotsford School District has identified 400+ local students as needing this program. Our RRCC volunteers help pack and deliver the backpacks each week for several schools in our area.
Teachers have reported improvements in children’s reading skills, math skills, ability to focus and do partner work. Starfish has now expanded to over 20 cities and is helping make sure children across BC and Whatcom County doesn’t have to worry about weekend hunger.
