Statement of Faith
Ross Road Core Values
- We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God.
We will therefore give priority to teaching/preaching the word of God. It will serve as our final authority to instruct us in our faith and in how we live. (see 2 Tim. 4:2-5; 2 Tim 3:15-17, Heb. 4:12-13; 2 Peter 1:19-21). - We believe that genuine love and caring relationships honour God and are a key to our unity and effectiveness in witness and ministry.
We value Christian unity and therefore will refuse to give audience to a spirit of complaining and criticism. We will instead be courageous in solving every problem in a way that honours God, follows Christ's instruction and restores relationships. (see Matt. 18:15-17; Rom. 16:17-18; 1 Cor. 13:8; Eph. 4:3; 1 Tim 5:19). - We believe in identifying and training emerging leaders who are committed to Christ and to helping in fulfilling the "Great Commission".
We will therefore encourage everyone, in all stages of life, to be open to God's call for full time ministry. We will provide opportunities for the development of spiritual gifts and for a process of discernment. (see Acts 13:1-3; 2 Tim, 2:1-2; 1 Tim 4:12-14). - We believe that prayer is the underlying foundation and strength to every ministry in our Church.
We will therefore intentionally lead our people in corporate prayer and encourage every believer to give priority to personal and family prayer. (see Matt. 18:19-20; Mark 11:24; Acts 4:31; Phil. 4:4-6; James 5) - We believe that the leadership of the church should be entrusted to elders who will serve as our "shepherds" and "spiritual overseers".
Therefore we will prayerfully discern our elders in accordance with the qualifications set out in the New Testament. We will encourage and support them with our prayers and by using our spiritual gifts. (see Acts 20:28; 1 Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:2-4; 1 Tim. 5:17-20). - We believe that God is worthy of our best and that in everything we do we should seek to bring glory to God.
We do not look for perfection, but excellence with consistent evaluation and willingness to improve for the sake of maximum effectiveness in advancing God's Kingdom. (see Psalm 78:72; Dan. 5:12; Phil. 2:2-4; Col. 3:17; 1 Peter 4:10-11) - We believe that every person, Christian and non-christian alike has been created in the image of God and therefore has eternal worth.
We will therefore treat every person with respect, recognizing their potential in Christ Jesus, who created us to find fulfillment in living for God's glory. (see Gen. 1:26; Gen. 2:7; Ps. 8:4-8; John 3:16-17; Eph. 1:4-6). - We believe in celebrative worship, which honours God the Father and Jesus Christ His son.
We will therefore plan our worship services under the direction of the Holy Spirit, including scripture, hymns, psalms and spiritual songs, prayer, instruments and various arts to assist us in offering our praises to God. We will seek to be both relevant to our culture and sensitive to the need of those in our congregation. (see Ps. 150; John 4:24; Eph. 5:18-20; Col 3:16-17). - We believe every believer should commit to a life-style of consistent spiritual growth and accountability.
We therefore encourage every believer to commit to being part of one of our "Care Groups" which provides a significant place to experience genuine fellowship; to study God's word; to share in intercessory prayer, etc. (see Acts 2:42-47, Rom. 12:9-13; Gal. 6:2; 1 Thess. 5:11; Heb. 10:24-25). - We believe every member is a minister who has been given spiritual gifts to be discovered, developed and used for God's glory and in serving others.
We are a gift-based, volunteer driven church and therefore encourage every believer to sincerely explore areas of service, where they can use their spiritual gifts and experience joy and fulfillment. Our leaders are committed to assisting every believer in discovering and using their gifts. (see Rom. 12:1-8; Eph. 4:7-16; 1 Cor. 12:1-31; 1 Peter 4:7-11). - We believe that the most effective evangelism happens through people building friendships and inviting others to "come and see".
We therefore encourage every believer to develop and cultivate healthy relationships with family members, neighbours and friends, trusting the Holy Spirit to provide opportunities to share Christ's love. As evangelism becomes part of our normal "life style" it will be easy to invite our friends to "come and see". We will continue to plan special services and events that will be especially appropriate for such invitations. (see Prov. 11:30; Matt. 5:13-16; 22:37-40; John 1:43-45; 4:28-30; 1 Peter 3:15) - We believe that we can be more effective as a church by working together with other churches and organizations in accomplishing the Great Commission.
We therefore are committed to working with and to supporting the ministries of our M.B. Conference. In addition, we will work co-operatively with local churches and organizations of like-mind. (see Acts 11:19-26; 15:22-35; Eph. 4:4-6; 2 Cor. 8-9; Phil. 4:14-16) - We believe that regularly giving the first portion of our financial resources proportionate to God's blessings reflects practically our support of the ministries of the RRCC, our commitment to assist the needy and our love and thankfulness to God as our provider.
- We will therefore encourage every believer to honor God by being good stewards of all their material resources; growing in the grace of giving, and together cultivating a lifestyle of godliness with contentment. (Numbers 18, Proverbs 3:9-10; Malachi 3:8-12; Luke 6:38; 1 Corinthians 16:1-4; 2 Corinthians 8-9; 1 Timothy 6:3-10)
